Joe was awarded his wings and commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in June 1943. He served wit several fighter units before transferring to the 475th Fighter Group in late October 1943. Joe was assigned to the 432nd FS and quickly scored two unconfirmed (probable) victories over Mitsubishi A6M “Zeke” fighters in November of that year.

Shelton, Jim

Lt. Col. Jack M. 'Jim' Shelton joined the Army Air Corp in 1942. Served with the 475th Fighter Group in the Pacific in WWII, flying 107 combat missions in a P-38. Retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1972.

Cortner, Warren J.

Warren enlisted in the Army Air Force on May 23, 1942 and was a P-38 pilot in the 475th fighter group, 5th Air Force, in the Pacific Theatre. He flew 90 combat missions and accumulated over 300 combat hours. He was discharged from active duty October 5, 1945. He continued service in the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1962.

Willey, Norman

Norman Willey served in the Army Air Corps from 1940-1946 with 2 ½ years in the South Pacific, where General Douglas MacArthur awarded him the citation for bravery and the Soldiers Medal of Valor. During the war, he was field-promoted to Captain. He remained in the Air Force Reserve, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. After the War, he earned his Master's degree in Education from Purdue.

Gettler, Jerry

At 19 years old, he was probably the youngest pilot to fly combat in a P-38 with the Satans Angeles in New Guinea. He flew 37 missions with the 433rd Fighter Squadron, 475th Fighter Group between November, 1943 and April, 1944.
